Suunto ZoneSense

The world’s first real intensity measurement

Know your real exercise intensity

In endurance training, finding the right workout intensity is key to getting the best results. Many athletes wonder if they’re training too hard or not enough. Heart rate zones have been used to estimate intensity, but they don’t account for changes from one day to another, between different activity types or during long workouts.

Now, Suunto ZoneSense offers a breakthrough in tracking real-time intensity. It uses heart rate variability (HRV) to give accurate insights, helping athletes optimize their performance like never before.

Training for building endurance, in running

In order to train for a marathon, or any challenging running distance, you should train with a mix of different styles of running. With Suunto ZoneSense, you can train in a way that you develop endurance, speed and recovery capacity, ensuring you’re ready for all aspects of a race or challenge on D Day! These are some examples.

Easy aerobic runs

For easy aerobic runs, you focus on building endurance in the green aerobic zone. These runs should feel light and relaxed, and ZoneSense helps you avoid accidentally running too fast by keeping you in the optimal range.

Tempo runs

In tempo runs, the goal is to sustain a “comfortably hard” effort in the yellow, anaerobic, zone. This pace and intensity helps improve your ability to handle faster speeds over time. ZoneSense ensures you’re pushing enough to challenge yourself without slipping into training too hard.

Long intervals

Finally, long intervals require alternating between maximum effort in the red, VO2 max zone, and easy recovery in the green zone. These runs improve your speed and power, and ZoneSense guides you to hit the right intensity for both the hard and recovery segments.

Real-time intensity measurement

Suunto ZoneSense, powered by MoniCardi's cutting-edge technology, measures heart stress through heart rate variability (HRV), offering athletes real-time insight into their training intensity. Driven by the advanced DDFA index, which tracks changes in metabolic state, ZoneSense provides accurate feedback on whether your intensity is aerobic, anaerobic, or reaching VO2 max levels. This helps you to stay in the optimal training zone.

Thresholds without laboratory tests

Suunto ZoneSense helps you better understand the state of your body. Since our bodies perform differently each day, factors like one's menstrual cycle, training conditions, and recovery can affect threshold levels. While laboratory tests provide a snapshot of these thresholds for a specific day, ZoneSense offers real-time measurements every time you train, ensuring you always have the most up-to-date insight into your performance.

All endurance sports

ZoneSense works across all cardiovascular sports, from trail running and cycling to swimming and cross-country skiing. No need for personal settings like age, gender, or activity level — ZoneSense learns from your workouts, adapting to your performance in different sports for even greater accuracy.

Free feature for all Suunto users using HR belt

All Suunto users training with a heart rate belt can unlock ZoneSense intensity analysis through the Suunto app. This post-exercise insight helps you understand how your body responded to each session, empowering you to make smarter training decisions.

For real-time tracking, ZoneSense is available on the latest Suunto watches – Suunto 9 Peak Pro, Suunto Vertical, Suunto Race, and Suunto Race S. Simply download the free ZoneSense app from the SuuntoPlus Store to your watch, pair your heart rate belt to the watch, and start training!

"Use [ZoneSense] for not going too hard on your easy days or hard enough on your hard days - you should still be having fun out there, just use ZoneSense to help guide the training and help you dial in as an athlete!"
