Understanding the basics of heart rate variability HRV (Heart Rate Variability) is a numerical measure of the variation in time between consecutive heartbeats, known as RR intervals. It is easy to assume that if your heart rate is 60 bpm, your heart beats exactly once every second. In reality, there are small differences in timing from one beat to the next. The size of these variations is HRV.
